The use of playing music backwards became even simpler when the technology for recording sound was revolutionized by the 9Fritz Pfleumer’s invention of the of magnetic tape for sound recording in 1928. This gave artists and producers the power to record and re-record audio with minimal loss in quality as well as editing and rearranging recordings such that radio broadcasting and music recording became less painless. It was this development which gave impetus to the use of backmasking, together with Aleister Crowley`s influence which spread amongst the popular musical fraternity, later in the 60`s and 70`s, notable amongst them the Beatles and Led Zeppelin who were so influenced by him that they themselves experimented with not just reversing musical tracks but going one step further and embedding these sounds and messages intentionally into their music, more of which later.
